Research studies have found a link between chromium-6 (Cr-6) and cancer in humans. Cr-6 is commonly found in drinking water sources near industrial facilities. Individuals are exposed through ingestion of contaminated water. Federal and state agencies have begun monitoring Cr-6 levels in water and enacting laws to limit exposure in order to protect public health. However, more data is still needed on Cr-6 health effects and exposure levels to fully understand the risks.
