Gupta Temple Architecture Suken Shah

Patanjalis Mahabhasya (2nd BC) , refers to the Temples of Dhanapati(Kubera), Rama and Kesava(Vasudeva). Kautilyas Arthashastra refers to the placement within a fortified city of temples that enshrine Shiva, Ashvinikumaras and Sri(lakshmi). Bas-reliefs from Bharhut, Sanchi, Bodhgaya, Mathura and Amaravati.

Conclusion
The potentiality of dressed stone was for the time appreciated during the Gupta period which ushered in an age of Temple construction that was characterised by a more reasoned application of structural principles. Philosophy-Science-Religion-Technology Foundation of Indian Temple Architecture was laid in the Gupta period
