Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 6 Becoming a Professional Candidates prepared in early childhood degree

programs identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to the early childhood practices. They are continuous, collaborative learners who demonstrates knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that integrate knowledgeable from a variety of sources. They are informed advocates for sound educational practices and policies. (National Association for the Education of Young Children, 2011).

Brief Description of Evidence:

During the summer semester of 2013 in my ECED 260 class I collaborated with five other class members to advocate for more science in the classroom. We wrote three letters to different newspapers asking them to come and promote the STEM conference that we presented our workshop. We demonstrated some science activities that educators could do in there classroom by using inexpensive items found in the house. We created a list of resources for educators to take away with them as well. The last thing that we did was to set up an ideal science center for the participants to view.

Analysis of What I Learned: By collaborating with the other professionals in my class, I was
able to find away to advocate for the need of a more comprehensive science and math area in early childhood classrooms. I also was able to get a list of resources to take back into my own classroom.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard: I was

able to collaborate with other professionals to create a presentation to advocate for more science ideas in the classroom. I was also able to be a part of creating an ideal science area that will hopefully spark an interest in science by providing resources for other educators to use. I also learned while working with other professionals some of the benefits of a complete science program in the classroom.
