Report On The English Week Programme In SMK Alam Shah In SMK Alam Shah, the English Week was carried out from 18 April until 22 April 2011. The programme was organized by the English Language Society. The slogan was I Love English. All pupils were encouraged to use English Language with their friends and teachers. There were lots of activities arranged during the week. The activities were carried out during school hours On Monday, the event kicked off with the assembly in the Bestari Hall. The principal, Mr. Ariffin bin Sabtu, was invited to give a speech. Then, he launched the opening ceremony. The assembly ended at 8.30 a.m. Next, the singing competition was held in the Bestari Hall. Six groups of students joined the competition. They had to sing an English song. Their performance was fun. At 11.00 a.m., the spelling bee competition was carried out in the library. Spelling bees can improve students' spelling and vocabulary. Twenty participants from Form 4 and 5 tried their luck in this competition. On the second day, the choral speaking competition was held. This competition helped students to speak good English. It also built team cooperation. This competition began at 8.00 a.m. in the Bestari Hall. This competition was opened to all Form 1, 2 and 3 students. The theme was The Benefits of English. Each group performed excitedly on the stage. Everybody was as happy as king. Next, the impromptu speech competition was held. Sixteen students from various forms took part in this difficult competition. On day three, the debate competition was held. The Form 4 and 5 students took part in this event. Everyone was amazed at the language of the debaters. After recess, the Form 1 and 2 students participated in the crossword puzzle competition. Some Form 3 students were involved in the tongue twister competition. The Form 4 and 5 students were involved in the essay competition. The treasure hunt activity was conducted on the fourth day. The activity was participated by ten teams. This activity built confidence and positive attitudes. This activity was healthy for the body too. Meanwhile, the poem recitation activity was also held at the Bestari Hall. This activity enables students to love literature. Ten students took part in this competition. The last day of English Week was more relaxing. Students were given a chance to watch a movie. The title of the movie was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Tickets were sold at RM1.00 per student. The English Language Society can use the money for future activities. After recess, the closing ceremony was held in the Bestari Hall. The Form 5 students performed a good drama. After that, the principal, Mr. Ariffin bin Sabtu, gave story presents to the winners. The English Language Society would like to thank everybody who had made this event a successful one.
