OURING CAR TCL 1986 — 1988 specifications These are the current different cars in our mod “Touring Car Legends”, featuring the 1986 — 1988 period in Group A racing. The specs you see don’t show everything, decide for yourself which car you like and which is fastest,Handling, tire and fuel use, possible up and downgrades, race length, different circuits and your own driving style matter a lot. We did not create this as an RS500 Cup, also don't start off with the RS500 as your first car. It wasn’t known for its great handling and it’s not because they increased turbo pressure that the grip and brakes improved. There are a lot of interesting possibilities for leagues using seasons and restrictions to ensure a good mixed field, make use of it. WakSIEINE BMW E30 M3 Weight including pilot: 1030 KG Engine: 310 BHP @ 8500 RPM (’87: 300), 2400cc L4, N/A Suspension & Drivetrain: independent, RWD ‘The M3 was one of the most successful cars during the history of Group A, consistently winning its class and sometimes races outright in many different championships. In fact the M3 is arguably the most successful racing saloon of all time. Introduced in the 1987 season the M3 combines a powerful 4 cylinder 16v engine, with an excellent chassis, probably the best of any car that raced in Group A. Despite having only just over 300 HP the M3 can often keep up with much more powerful cars, making up for lack of a straight line speed with speed carried through the corners. Mercedes 190E Weight including pilot: 1050 KG Engine: 310 BHP @ 8750 RPM (’87: 300), 2400cc L4, N/A Suspension & Drivetrain: independent, RWD In many ways the 190 shares a lot of characteristics with the M3. Itis a lightweight car, with an impressive 4 cylinder engine, which was developed initially for the road going 190 by the British engineering firm Cosworth. The chassis is also excellent, providing good handling characteristics. The 190 was rarely raced outside of the German championship, and usually then only in the hands of private teams. In the DTM however the 190 is a able to match the M3 at many circuits, and with the right driver is a race winning car. Mercedes 190E (1986) Weight including pilot: 1050 KG Engine: 260 BHP @ 8000 RPM, 2300cc L4, N/A Suspension & Drivetrain: independent, RWD The 1986 specification Mercedes 190 features a less powerful engine than the later more developed cars. Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Weight including pilot: 1050 KG Engine: 300 BHP @ 6500 RPM, 1800cc L4, Turbo Suspension & Drivetrain: live rear axle, RWD On paper the Alfa Romeo has an impressive specification. It features an engine that at a glance would appear to offer similar potential to that of the Cosworth twin cam turbo engine in the sierras. Unfortunately for the Italian manufacturer the 75 did not produce the goods on the track. The cars were unreliable, down on power compared to the leading BMW and Mercedes class rivals, and did not have a chassis to match the German saloons that it was in competition with.
