Teenage pregnancy is a global issue, with 13 million children born worldwide each year to mothers under age 20. In the Philippines specifically, 53 out of every 1,000 teenagers become pregnant. Common causes of teenage pregnancy include culture, peer pressure, absent parents, lack of knowledge, sexual abuse, rape, and teenage drinking. Health complications for both mother and child can arise, such as anemia, hypertension, nutritional deficiencies, disproportion of the birth canal, premature birth, and low birth weight.
