(Common to VLSIS, VLSISD, VLSI & VLSID) Time: 3 hours Answer any FIVE Questions All Questions carry equal marks ***** 1. (a) Distinguish between PERL, VB script and JAVA script. (b) Explain how the VB scripting language can be used to locate and execute activex document application. 2. (a) Explain how a pattern matching is done in PERL with an example. (b) Explain different objects used in PERL. Max. Marks: 60

3. (a) Explain how you interpolate an array into strings in PERL and also explain array representation in PERL. (b) Explain how inter process communication is made easier with file handlers. 4. (a) What are the different debugging techniques implemented in PERL. Give one program as an example. (b) Explain the following PERL functions with example. (i) Sprint f (ii) Study (iii) Squirt. 5. (a) Explain how Hash in being used in PERL. What is Hash assignment and Hash function? (b) Explain in general what is a thread, and how they used in scripting language? 6. (a) If a PERL program contains a sub routine explain how it is invoked, using an example. (b) Explain about command processing and environment variables. 7. (a) Explain the features of Java Scripting language with examples. (b) Explain the procedure for writing the VB script to add POP-UP messages or input boxes. 8. Write short note on (a) CGI. (b) VB Script.
