Unit I DCMachine

This document discusses different types of DC machines. It introduces the general voltage equation for DC generators and motors. It then describes separately excited DC motors, DC shunt motors, DC series motors, and DC compound machines. It provides the voltage and current equations for a DC motor and includes 3 example problems to solve.

UNIT I DC Generator and Motor

Mrunal Deshpande, AP / EEE

General Voltage Equation of DC Machine

For a generator,

Eg=V + IaRa
For a motor,

Eb=V - IaRa

Separately Excited DC Motor

DC Shunt Motor

Let in a D.C. motor, V = applied voltage Eb = back e.m.f. Ra = armature resistance Ia = armature current Since back e.m.f. Eb acts in opposition to the applied voltage V, the net voltage across the armature circuit is V- Eb. The armature current Ia is given by; Ia = (V Eb)/ Ra or V = Eb + IaRa
