Midterm Exam Topics/guidelines

The midterm exam will cover topics from the protocols assignment, IPv6 assignment, all 4 lecture notes, application layer protocols from the textbook including TCP, UDP, HTTP, FTP, Telnet, SMTP, POP3, NNTP, and IMAP. It will also cover sections 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 from Chapter 1 of the textbook as well as sections 2.6.1 on the IP protocol and 2.6.2 on IP addressing from the Network Layer chapter. Students should know the purpose, use, port numbers, protocol type, and examples of client and server products for each application layer protocol.
