M Duggan - Petition II

Mark Duggan was shot and killed by police in Tottenham, London in 2011. A jury concluded he was lawfully killed, despite not having a gun in his hand, sparking outrage from his family and supporters. The document calls for standing against racist scapegoating and supporting demonstrations on March 22, 2014, noting that black people are 30 times more likely to be stopped and searched by police than white people, and complaints of racism are made against police daily.

JUSTICE FOR MARK DUGGAN

Mark was gunned down when police stopped the taxi in which he was travelling in Tottenham, north London. A jury looking into his death said they were sure that he did not have a gun in his hand but concluded last week that he was "lawfully killed" by police in August 2011. This sparked shock and fury from family, supporters and activists. We know that the everyday reality is racist stop and search, repression directed particularly at black and Asian people, young people, protesters and working class people in general. Black people are 30 times more likely to be stopped and searched by police than white people. Complaints of racism are lodged against the police every single day.
