EXERCISE 2 a

The Jarvis Cafeteria wants to determine their profit for the months of January, February, and
March. Using the features covered in Exercise 1, create the spreadsheet below.

Instructions:

1. Enter the spreadsheet values and labels using cells A1:E17. Follow the instructions given for cell
formatting and value calculations.

2. Center the spreadsheet titles across the columns A through E in rows 1 and 2 (merge and
center). Change the row 1 title to any font, size 12 and the row 2 title to any font, size 8.

3. Cell Formatting:
o For the labels in cells B4:E4, change the cell alignment to center
o Bold the labels in cells A5 and A10
o For cells A8, A15, and A17, change the cell alignment to right

4. Calculations using Formulas & AutoSum Function:


o In cell E6, calculate Total Dinner Sales for January through March using the AutoSum
Function on the Standard toolbar – this function will add a range of cells

 The answer will appear in cell E6 and the function =sum(B6:D6) will appear in the
formula bar
 Copy the function down to cells E7:E8 using the copy command
 You should use AUTOSUM whenever you are adding more than 2 cell addresses
o In cell B8, calculate Total Sales for January using the formula =B6+B7 or AutoSum. Copy the
formula right to cells C8:D8
o In cell E11, calculate Total Salaries for January through March using the AutoSum function.
Copy the function down to cells E12:E15
o In cell B15, calculate Total Expenses for January using the AutoSum function. Copy the
function right to cells C15:D15
o In cell B17, calculate Net Profit [Total Sales minus Total Expenses] using the formula =B8-
B15. Copy the formula right to cells C17:E17

5. Value Formatting:
o ,
Format cells B6:E15 to comma with no decimal places using the button and decrease
decimal button on the formatting toolbar
o Format cells B17:E17 to currency with two decimal places using the $ button on the
formatting toolbar

6. Borders:
 Add borders to the spreadsheet
 Change the outline and inside borders from the single line default

7. Add a footer.

8. Save the spreadsheet file as ex02a on your home drive.
