Check list for troubleshooting equipment in classrooms

Power and Network Issues



1. Check the power cables are plugged in and turned on.
2. Check the switchbox power plug is fully plugged in to power and turned on.
3. Check to see if the lights on the switch are on and/or flashing.
4. Check that the BLUE or GREY network patch cable is plugged into the wall socket.
5. Check that the BLUE or GREY network patch cable is plugged into the switchbox.
6. Check that the cable leading from the switch is plugged into the PC network card.
7. Check to see if the lights are flashing on the network card at the back of the PC.

If you cant log in then you have NO network connection.


Monitor Issues

1. Check the power cables are plugged in and turned on.
2. Check that the cable lead from PC to monitor is plugged in.
3. Check that the monitor is turned on from the power button on the monitor.
4. Restart your computer.


Printing Issues

1. Check that you are logged into the network.
2. Check which printer you are sending your printing to.
3. Check that the printer has power and paper
4. Check the printer does not have an error message such as No toner or a cartridge needs
replacing.
5. Check that your print queue is not overloaded.
6. Clear printing that hasnt been printed and try again to print.


Keyboard/Mouse Issues

1. Check that all cables are plugged in.
2. Try swapping if different USB ports are available.
3. Try using a different mouse or keyboard.

Email Issues

1. Check that you are logged into the network
2. Check that your password is up to date in the My Profile tab.
3. Check that your distribution lists are correct and up to date with no dodgy email addresses.
4. Try replying to an email before attempting to send a new email.



DET Login Issues

1. Are you logged in and can only see the DET webpage and unable to get any other page?
CHANGE your DET password as it has expired.
2. Make sure you are using the correct login name/password combination. This is NOT connected
with your school network login (changing one does not change the other).
3. If this doesnt work see Computer Coordinator or ring DET helpdesk and ask them to assist: 1800
338 483.


Wireless Network Issues- Please see separate document


SmartBoards

1. Check nothing is touching board surface (furniture, etc)
2. Red light showing on SmartBoard- reset button located on lower right edge of board, press using
one of the board pens
3. Unplug black USB cable, leave for 5 seconds, plug back in
4. Hold 2 big buttons on pen tray to quick-calibrate
5. To clean, turn all equipment off and wipe with soft cloth sprayed with Windex or similar gentle
cleaner. DO NOT spray the windex onto the smartboard.


Projectors (Epson, white)

1. Always switch projectors off at recess, lunch and other times when not in use.
2. My projector is asking for a code/password: Hold the Num key on the remote and press 0000.
3. My monitor wont show anything: Turn on the projector and set it to AV mute


Projectors (Sanyo, orange)

1. Always switch projectors off at recess, lunch and other times when not in use.
2. Remote frequency changed- no response from remote controller- Hold menu + image buttons
simultaneously for 20 seconds.
