THE UNITED NATIONS!
The U.N.s purposes:
To maintain international peace and security.
To develop friendly relations among nations.
To cooperate in solving international problems and in
promoting respect for human rights.
The U.N. works every day to promote gender equality,
fight climate change, reduce poverty, assist refugees, and
improve the wellbeing of people around the world.
THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
POVERTY AND HUNGER STATISTICS
870 million people in the world dont have
enough to eat.
Worlds population: 7 billion
1 in every 7 people is malnourished.
Children who are malnourished suffer up to
160 days of sickness every year.

The Global Classrooms conference in
Madrid simulates the United Nations.
Students represent various countries in
pairs.
Students participate in the conference
through debate and public speaking.
HYPOTHETICAL SIMULATION:
You could represent Portugal, Syria, South
Africa, etc.
For the purposes of the conference, you
represent your assigned country, not Spain.
HYPOTHETICAL SIMULATION:
Assigned Country: South Africa
Topic: Violence Against Women
Purpose: Create an international agreement
(i.e. resolution) about violence against
women for all countries.

Country Profile: geography, history,
demographics (population), climate,
government, etc.

You represent your country as a
delegate.

December: Position Papers
Before Christmas Break: Mock conference at Tirso de Molina
After Christmas Break: Mock conference with another school.
At the end of January, 10 students will represent Tirso de Molina at the prelimenary
Madrid Conference.
If we do well, well pass to the Final Conference.
