Spanish Language Unit 2 Overview


November - December
Unit Name: Getting Around in Spanish Class
Overarching Question: How is Spanish used in a school
community?
In this unit, students demonstrate oral and written Spanish
skills. The students will identify and describe places and people in
the school.
Key vocabulary: By tens to 100, el/la maestro-the teacher, el
director-the principal, la secretaria-the secretary, el estudiantethe student, la oficina-the office, la clase-the class, el gimnasiothe gym, la biblioteca-the library, Qu es/son- What is it?, la
carpeta-the folder, papel-the paper, mapa-the map, goma-the
glue, mochila-the backpack, pupitre-the desk, Cuntos hay-How
many are there/, Hay-There are
For knowledge assessment, students will be asked to do one
or more of the following in Spanish:
1. Given a teacher-created visual of a backpack, school supplies and a word bank,
student identifies them in writing. (1.2.N.R.a)
2. Given a map of a school, students orally identify places in the building. (Scenario:
Student gives a visitor (the teacher) a tour of the school identifying rooms and
personnel.) (1.3.N.S.b)
3. Using a collection of pictures of school items, students orally identify x items s/he
needs. (5.2.N.a)

Use the Spanish names of people in the building when


conversing at home
Have your child pack a backpack using the correct Spanish
word
