About Hypnosis
Hypnosis is increasingly recognized as an
exceptionally powerful vehicle to facilitate and
augment the efficiency of virtually any
therapeutic approach.
Hypnosis is not a therapy in-and-of itself, but
rather is an altered state of consciousness, in
which virtually any mode of therapeutic
intervention can be more effectively utilized
to promote healing and growing.
In addition to this, the hypnotic state makes
a wide variety of interventions possible that
are simply unimaginable in ordinary talktherapy!

Modern clinical hypnosis can often be

effectively utilized in an almost unimaginably
wide range of therapeutic conditions from the
augmentation
and
facilitation
of
the
effectiveness of normal psychotherapy, to
the facilitation of the growth orientated
approaches of Positive Psychology, even to
the relief and resolution of the psychosomatic
aspects of what are normally considered to be
medical conditions can be utilized!
In addition to this, the rapidly developing field
of Transpersonal Psychology, is a uniquely
suited hypnotherapeutic intervention!

For the purpose of adaptation, these ego

states, which represent different cognitions,
effects, perceptions and behaviours, are
partially dissociated from each other.
However, the boundaries are permeable.

Definition: An ego state is an organised

system of behaviours and experiences, the
elements of which are bound together by
some common principle, but are separated
from one another by boundaries, which are
more or less permeable.
The term ego state might cause some
confusion and needs further explanation.
What it actually means is that a mood state
is a general feeling, whereas an ego stage is
a personality segment enclosed within a
boundary, which is relatively more or less
permeable.
The Watkins conceptualise each ego state as
constituting a kind of sub-self which has

Ericksons approach to hypnosis is a radical

departure from other authorities. Erickson
defines hypnosis as influence communication
a position sure to be considered
controversial because some might think that
definition too general, thereby unnecessarily
diluting the territory.
Ericksons methods, collectively called the
utilization approach, though also referred to
as Ericksonian hypnosis.
In this
model, emphasis is placed upon the
utilization of as many dimensions of the
clients inner world as possible,
particularly the unconscious minds

more or less individual autonomy in relation
to other states and to the entire personality.

The
practitioner
of
Medical
Hypnoanalysis requires a training
background
in
the
basics
of
psychology,
developmental
psychology,
psychopathology
and
psychotherapy as well as in hypnosis.
Medical Hypnoanalysis is dynamic,
short term and directed. It is dynamic
in that the treatment approach
emphasises
causes
rather
than
symptoms, explanations rather than
descriptions and subconscious forces
rather than conscious forces as being
the
ultimate
origin
of
the
psychopathology. It is short term in
most of the situations. Thirty or less
sessions are required for the completion of

treatment procedures. It is directed therapy

in that the psychotherapist, upon making a
diagnosis, follows a medical model of
psychotherapy aimed at alleviating the
symptoms by means of resolving the
underlying subconscious causes.
Medical
Hypnoanalysis
examines
the
presenting symptoms of the patient by means
of a case history, observing the verbal and
non-verbal communication, while seeking
subconscious clues to the ultimate causes of
the symptoms, in order to make a
psychodynamic diagnosis. After the patient is
introduced to hypnosis, the majority of the
therapeutic sessions are conducted with the
patient in the hypnotized state. The therapist
investigates the subconscious by using the
following procedures:

A
specifically
designed
Word
Association Test (WAT)
Dream analysis
Age regression directed at crucial
periods earlier in the patients life

What is Integrative Hypnotherapy

A strong grounding in traditional

theories, approaches and techniques,
that are essential to understand the
process of hypnotherapy;
A holistic model of causation of
pathology, as well as treatment,
making it possible to integrate various
modes of intervention, including
medical,
psychotherapeutic,
hypnotherapeutic, as well as the more
esoteric or spiritual approaches, and;
Exposure to a variety of more esoteric
and spiritual approaches to treatment
(particularly in the advanced course).
