The Archers
What is drama
about?
Use of sound
Use of
Narrative
Use of Music
Use of
silence
There are
some sound
when they
are outside
such as
birds and
other
background
noises like
Church
Bells, apart
from that it
is just the
characters
talking to
each over.
The story
seems to
be about to
men
applying
for
somewhere
, could be
Oxford
University
because
Oxford is
mentioned
early on in
the drama.
There is a
part when
the man
who is
interviewin
g them sais
you will
need to
travel a lot
with me so
they may
be an
assistant.
There is a
brief
classical
piece at
the start of
the drama
but apart
from that
there is just
usual
sounds,
There is
also a
classical bit
when there
is a sad bit
in the
drama.
There is
background
noises from
the village
such as cars
or people
talking in
the
background.
Two
characters
say at the
start I will
see you in
the village
hall so the
location is
obviously a
village. It
starts off
There is a
bright jolly
classical
piece of
music as
the
introductio
n before
the drama
starts.
There is
pauses
where it is
silent when
the scene
is changing
or there
moving to
another
conversatio
n, this is
quite clear
when the
scene is
being
changed.
There is
more of a
gap in this
one than
others
when there
is a
conversatio
n like when
there is two
people
talking
there is a
gap when
they say
stuff which
doesnt
make it
sound very
realistic.
Like most
radio
dramas
when there
is a change
of scene
there is
often a gap
in-between
any type of
sound,
Characters
or narrator
2 men
called
Harry,
Michael
who are in
a town or
city, the
men who
are in the
drama are
very well
spoken and
posh
(Oxford is
mentioned)
.
There a lot
of
characters
that come
in in the
first 5
minutes, as
they also
say that it
is in a
village then
with
someone
giving a
presentatio
n. There
also seems
to be
several
storys
going on at
the same
time such
as some
people are
organizing
a play
where as
another
lady seems
to
comforting
someone
who is ill.
Rumpole
What is drama
about?
There are
sounds at the
very
beginning of
the train,
there are
other sounds
such as
background
voices, doors
etc. That add
more
understandin
g to the
listener of
thing such as
location an
atmosphere.
The two
characters,
Rumpole and
Hilda, start
of by talking
about
decorating
there flat.
There are
some other
storys that
are added to
the drama
but it is hard
to
understand
in the first
10 minutes.
At the start
there is
another brief
classical
introduction.
In the first 5
minutes
there isnt
any other
musical
parts
injected into
the drama.
again this
is to help
the
audience
tell when
there is a
change in
location on
scene. This
one does
not use
gaps inbetween
when
people are
talking it is
more
realistic.
it is
obviously a
drama
based
around a
small
village.
There isnt
much silence
in the whole
drama like
the others
there is a
brief spots
between
different
scenes like
most of
them. Like
the last one
this is very
professional
and when
people are
talking it
sounds like
an actual
conversation
.
Rumpole is
in the flat
with his
girlfriend
Hilda. They
are both
well-spoken
and posh.
There is an
introduction
of some
more
characters.
