Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Kathryn Sape
Dear MSW Admissions Committee:
Please find this letter of recommendation on behalf of Ms. Kathryn Sape, a BSW student in the
School of Social Work at Wayne State University who is applying for MSW program. I am an
Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Wayne State. I was also Kathryns instructor
for the Social Work 3510 (Human Behavior in the Social Environment) and Social Work 3020
(Practice Methods II) class. I have known Kathryn since August of 2013. As her former
instructor, I can evaluate her strengths and capability for graduate studies, and more specifically,
the MSW program.
In my classes, which were taken during fall semester of 2013 and winter semester of 2014,
Kathryn has proven herself to be an exceptional student. Her assignments were completed with
excellent results; all of her assignments were submitted promptly. She received A+ for both
classes (although I am regarded as some students as a tough grader). Compared to other
students in my class, she demonstrated excellence in her oral and written skills and the ability to
work well as a team. She was also willing to share her insights as well as gain new insights from
others. Overall, she has been an outstanding student at our school who is dedicated to addressing
social problems such as alcohol and drug use and promoting social/economic justice on behalf of
vulnerable and high-risk populations. She has more than expressed a strong desire to make
significant contributions through social work training, and I am highly confident that she would
be a major asset to the MSW program at Wayne State University and the social work profession.
Thus, I strongly recommend Kathryn Sape for the MSW program in the School of Social Work
at Wayne State University. She has the academic skills and drive to excel, as reflected in her
academic performances.
If you have any questions about Kathryns application or my letter of recommendation, please do
not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at 310-990-4658 (cell phone) or by e-mail at

Sincerely,

Jun Sung Hong, PhD, MSW, MA
