Ten Types of Learning Strategies


1.) Presentation
Advantages
-You only have to present the information once.
-Students are also able to make presentations too.
Limitations
-This strategy may be difficult for some students
-It may also be boring for some students
2.) Demonstration
Advantages
-Students are able to see the instructions and information before they
must do it.
-Teachers are able to take control of the safety.
Limitations
-This strategy is not hands on for students unless they are following
along with the teacher.
-Equal view, not all students will get the same view of the information
as the other students.
3.) Drill-and-Practice
Advantages
-Students are able to receive the correct feedback on their response.
-Will the students are practicing they are also learning the information.
Limitations
-This strategy could be repetitive.
-It may also potentially be boring for some students.
4.) Tutorial
Advantages
-Students are able to work independently.

-This strategy is also self-paced, and students are able to work at their
own speed.
Limitations
-This strategy could possibly be frustrating to students if they are not
able to get what they are learning right away.
-It may also be boring if another student catches on to it quickly.
5.) Discussion
Advantages
-This strategy could be deemed interesting to your entire classroom.
-It is also challenging, putting students minds to work.
Limitations
-Participation may be limited, and not all students will be able to
participate.
-It also may be difficult for some students. Some questions may be
harder for students than others.
6.) Cooperative Learning
Advantages
-Groups may be formal or informal.
-Many learning opportunities can be developed with long-term groups.
Limitations
-Groups need to be kept small, so the participation is equal.
-You may not be able to make groups as small, depending on your
classroom size.
7.) Games
Advantages
-Students always quickly engage when there are games involved.
-You are also able to gain their attention faster.
Limitations
-Competition may arise.
-Some games may be more difficult for students.

8.) Simulations
Advantages
-This is a safe way for students to learn.
-This strategy also offers a hands on experience.
Limitations
-The complexity of this strategy could also be a problem for younger
students.
-Time is always a factor, and this strategy may take too much time.
9.) Discovery
Advantages
-Very engaging for students of all grade levels.
-You can use steps that were previously used.
Limitations
-This strategy may also take too much time.
Preparing may be difficult. Teachers should look through all possible
issues that could come about.
10.) Problem-Based Learning
Advantages
-Students are engaged in rea-world learning experience.
-This may also bring up additional problem issues, and give students
further information.
Limitations
-Always make sure that the information is appropriate for your grade
level.
-This strategy is also very time consuming.
