simplify completion operations
and enhance wellbore safety.
Opens without debris to protect
wellbore productivity
The Schlumberger FIV* Formation
Isolation Valve is a large-bore completion valve normally run below a permanent or retrievable completion
production packer. The tool acts as a
downhole lubricator valve, allowing
long strings of well service equipment,
such as perforating guns, to be run
into and retrieved from the well while
the formation is completely isolated.
The FIV valve can be placed below the
gravel-pack packer in the sand face
completion.
This versatile completion valve
helps minimize the use of fluid loss
control treatments. It can be used to
suspend or temporarily abandon a
well. The FIV valve has a high pressure rating, compared to flapper fluid
loss tools, and it can be opened with
tubing pressure, eliminating a trip
into the well.
The FIV valve is a full opening
mechanical ball valve. The sealing
ball design is a larger version of the
field-proven Schlumberger HTHP DST
ball valve with a gas-tight seal. The
main purpose of the valve is to isolate
the formation from the wellbore. The
ball is closed when the shifting tool on
the washpipe is pulled through it.
It can be opened with multiple (10)
applications of tubing pressure, facilitating completion operations. Packers
can be set, tubing-tested, etc., without
affecting formation isolation. The FIV
valve holds pressure from both above
and below the valve making it ideal for
use in critical applications such as
deep water, HTHP and when the formation is sensitive to fluid loss.
The valve is manufactured from
materials that comply with NACE
standard MR0175 for sulfide stress
cracking resistant metallic materials.
