Technology should be Ubiquitous, Necessary, and Invisible ~ Chris Lehmann
Educate
The Edtech Managers role is to develop a community wide plan to make technology
ubiquitous, necessary and invisible. This plan will create a unified approach to technology use
that increases the connections and collaboration among all students, teachers and
administrators and between these groups. The overall plan will be based on the best available
information and it will be revisited and refined yearly based on external research and internally
collected data, while individual benchmarks in the plan will be revisited and refined more often
to improve implementation in real time. The ultimate goal of the plan is to create a selfsustaining, continuous learning environment in which the needs of students, teachers and
administrators are met in their use of the tools that support learning.
The main role of the EdTech Manager will be to develop the structures necessary for the
creation of a self-sustaining, continuous learning environment by consistently seeking out and
educating teachers and administrators on ways to improve technology integration at
Marianapolis. The specific steps the EdTech Manager will undertake in order to further the
educational requirements of this goal include but are not limited to:
1. Compiling and providing a list of webinars, online PD sessions and written resources on
technology integration that will be available to all teachers and administrators.
2. Creating online PD sessions for teachers and administrators.
3. Researching and Recommending PD opportunities for teachers and administrators.
4. Presenting PD for teachers and administrators during the summer, on designated PD
days and at regular intervals while school is in session.
Organize
Development of the structures necessary for the creation of a self-sustaining, continuous
learning environment will require a unified, organized approach to technology integration for all
members of the community while at the same time allowing for the flexibility necessary for
departments and individuals to differentiate their approach to support their needs. The specific
steps the EdTech Manager will undertake in order to further the organizational requirements of
this goal include but are not limited to:
1. Compiling and regularly updating a library of shared resources for teachers and
administrators on technology integration and encouraging departments to create their
own shared resource library.
2. Presenting regular workshops to promote collaboration and sharing among community
members and to educate community members on the use of cloud based sharing.
3. Creating and maintaining a schedule of needs based training for faculty and
administrators.
4. Providing a means for teachers and administrators to request and propose their own
training sessions based on their individual needs and to promote their individual
strengths and ideas.
Connect
The diffusion of ideas and innovations spreads through interaction within a community is
dependent upon the meaningful interactions between members of that community. (Diffusion of
Innovations) As such, to develop the structures necessary for the creation of a self-sustaining,
continuous learning environment these meaningful interactions will facilitate the learning
process for students, teachers and administrators alike. The specific steps the EdTech Manager
will undertake in order to further the connection requirements of this goal include but are not
limited to:
1. Assisting teachers and administrators in connecting to resources and social media
outlets.
2. Assisting students in connecting to online resources and databases.
3. Connecting teachers and administrators with modern pedagogical methods and
educational practices.
4. Showcasing Marianapolis teachers and administrators ideas to foster conversation and
collaboration.
5. Connecting with professionals in other schools whose technology integration is
established.
6. Connecting with professionals in other schools looking to collaborate with members of
the Marianapolis community.
Integrate
Technology is the tool that allows for and the use of which is necessary to implement student
centered, modern pedagogical educational methods. Rather than being the driver of
methodologies, the methodologies have been the driver of technological innovation. The
technology designed for use in education is necessary and becomes invisible when fully
integrated into the learning environment. In order to develop the structures necessary for the
creation of a self-sustaining, continuous learning environment technology must be integrated
into all aspects of school life. The specific steps the EdTech Manager will undertake in order to
further the integration requirements of this goal include but are not limited to:
1. Developing a 21st Century Skills curriculum for Marianapolis.
2. Working with departments on incorporating 21st Century Skills into course curricula.
3. Assisting teachers in the development of technology dependent lessons and
assessments.
4. Providing in person and online learning opportunities for students, teachers and
administrators.
Purpose
Learning is the end goal, and technology is just one of the many tools which can be used in
support of this goal. Therefore, in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities associated with the
position, the EdTech manager will remain faithful to the 14 essential requirements of technology
