Science Lesson Plan - Natural Resources

This science lesson plan focuses on Earth's natural resources. Students will use Padlet to research one of Earth's resources, such as rocks, minerals, fossil fuels, soil, air, water, or living things. They will classify these resources as renewable or non-renewable. In groups, students will share what they learned about their assigned resource from their Padlet research and textbook reading. The teacher will evaluate students by observing their ability to answer questions and assess their interest, work completion, and information finding during the lesson.

Comments

5 mins Do Now

What do you think is meant by the term Earths resource

Can you think of any examples of resources

5 mins Discuss what is a resource

Anything supplied by the Earth to satisfy a particular need of humans &

other living things

Brainstorm with your partner more examples of resources you can think
of

5 mins Share examples of resources

Rocks, minerals, fossil fuels (these are both found in rocks), soil, air,
water, living things (plants & animals), sunlight

5 mins Today we are learning more about these resources. We will also be
classifying them as renewable & non-renewable.

Think pair share Discuss what you think renewable & nonrenewable mean

Renewable = replaced by a natural process that occurs in a timescale

shorter than an average human life time

Non-renewable = Some resources take millions of years to be replaced.

So to a human who lives a much shorter time than this it seems that
these resources are not being replaced and so we call them nonrenewable.

Which resources would you say are renewable and non-renewable?

5 mins Everyone needs to open Padlet

Work in pairs/threes research your topic. You can add pictures and
words to answer the questions

You will then go to another group and explain what you found out about
your resource

Must use textbook (pg 68 75). Can use internet. Keeping this as a
resource to study later

15 mins Research your resource

15 mins Share with your group (3 groups of 6 & 2 groups of 7)
Plan for Evaluation of student outcomes
Observe students, are they are able to answer questions.
Self Evaluation: Motivation Strategies

Are students showing an interest in the topic, are they asking/answering questions?
Are they completing the work assigned?
Can they find information on resources
