Running head: CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

Management Philosophy
My belief on how a teacher should manage a classroom is to act as a role model in every
sense of the term. If a teacher has a rule that says no electronics, the teacher should not use one.
If the goal is to teach a healthy lifestyle, the teacher has to live one; eat the right foods in front of
their students and participate in movement activities. Teenagers do not like or respect hypocrites,
an instructor cannot live by the mantra do as I say, not as I do. What you want your students to
learn or do, learn and do alongside of them.

Rules
To keep students engaged and well behave; keep the rules for the classroom simple but
firm.
1. This is a gum free zone.
2. Students will raise their hands to speak, listen, and be respectful to the speaker.
3. Phones will be silenced and put away.
4. Stay in your seat unless otherwise directed.
5. Classroom and teacher materials are to be treated with respect. (p.12)
Collaborative Learning Experience
The desks will be set up 6 by 5 in the classroom with space in between and behind each
desk. This set up leaves a lot of space for movement and the students and teacher can walk up,
down, and to the side. Students can easily stand up and push in their chair to do an activity in the
spot or easily move around the classroom. There will be a space in the front for the teacher to
move around freely or the students can do skits and other physical activities that require more
room.

Constructive Interventions
If any of these rules or the schools rules are broken there must be consequences.
After a rule is broken, due process must be followed. These consequences as followed are simple
and the students can easily remember what they can expect if they break a rule. The instructor
holds the right to skip steps depending on severity.
First Offense Warning/Conference
Second Offense Call home
Third Offense Detention
Fourth Offense Administrative Referral (p.12)
Celebration and Praise
Praising a student for the correct answer, good behavior, or going the extra mile as a
student deserves praise and it promotes better behavior and enhances self-esteem. Throughout
the semester there will be assignments where the students are required to write papers, make
artistic creations, etc. The best papers will be posted on the Hall of Fame board (with student
permission and name blacked out) for students to read, the artistic creations will all be displayed
in the classroom.
Safe Classroom
The classroom is an American Government setting and the topics the class discusses can
be hot button and need to be handled with care. The students will be taught respect and how no
opinion is wrong. This strategy will enhance self-esteem and promote respect for others and their
views. The class will learn about the structure of our government but also respect, how to create
opinions, and how to discuss ideas in a healthy and professional manner.
