As A Boom Fades, Brazilians Wonder How It All Went Wrong - The New York Times

Brazil's economy has entered a crisis as the commodity boom fades, leaving Brazilians wondering how the country squandered its success. President Dilma Rousseff pursued aggressive policies like pressuring interest rate cuts and expanding state banks' lending to combat slowing growth, but instead fueled a debt crisis. Her critics argue this destroyed public finances to gain re-election. The economic crisis is now curbing Brazil's ambitions as inflation soars and austerity measures are resisted, intensifying calls for Rousseff's impeachment.
