Dear RN Nurse Residency Program Recruiting Committee,
My name is Devyn Weber, and I am writing with extreme interest in becoming a candidate for your RN
Residency Program. I believe that in order to be successful as a new graduate registered nurse in the
residency program, teamwork, collaboration, and emphasis on patient-centered care are imperative skills
to have. This residency program will allow a new graduate nurse to capitalize on previously developed
skills and adapt to the development of new skills.
My recent 180-hour senior preceptorship in the Medical/Surgical/Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at
Carondelet St. Josephs Hospital in Tucson, Arizona has provided me with insight and extensive
preparation to be successful in the RN Residency Program. With an array of exposures to physiological
conditions and interventional treatments, I became consumed with the desire to further my education
and passion in caring for critically ill patients. Throughout the course of my preceptorship, I was the
primary nurse responsible for complete patient care, progress charting, care plan composing, and
interprofessional collaboration with varying healthcare providers. I was precepted by a critical care
registered nurse who was responsible for oversight of my nursing practice. Upon completion of my
senior preceptorship, I learned the extreme importance of patient advocacy, implementation of evidencebased practice, and integrity within holistic patient care. The nursing skills that I acquired in the
intensive care unit will allow me to effectively improve my knowledge in the overall role of a critical care
nurse while being a member of the RN Residency Program.
My current involvement with the College of Nursing Alumni Council and the Curriculum and Instructional
Support for Entry and Professional Advancement (CISC-EPA) has allowed me to continually exercise my
leadership and teamwork attributes. Within both of these organizations, I hold the position of the
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student representative, where I am the bridge of information from
students to faculty. Additionally, I was previously involved in a nursing student-run organization titled
Student Nurses at the University of Arizona (SNUA) as the Treasurer. Holding an officer position
demonstrated reliability and accountability to my peers, and responsibility to other partnering
organizations. My involvement in extracurricular activities throughout my enrollment in the Bachelor of
Science in nursing program has prepared me for the opportunities in improving my overall patient care.
Your hospital contains individuals with unwavering compassion who have the desire to serve the patient
as an individual entity. With the strengths and characteristics that I have aforementioned, I inherently
believe that I am an exceptional candidate for this residency program. I look forward to hearing from the
recruiting committee, and I sincerely thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Devyn Weber
