Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 5. USING CONTENT KNOWLEDGE TO BUILD
MEANINGFUL CURRICULUM
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs a) use their knowledge of academic
disciplines to design, implement, and evaluate experiences that promote positive development
and learning for each and every young child. Candidates understand the importance of
developmental domains and academic (or content) disciplines in early childhood curriculum.
They b) know the essential concepts, inquiry tools, and structure of content areas, including
academic subjects, and can identify resources to deepen their understanding. Candidates c) use
their own knowledge and other resources to design, implement, and evaluate meaningful,
challenging curriculum that promotes comprehensive developmental and learning outcomes for
every young child.
Brief Description of Evidence:
As part of my ECED 120 Child Growth and Development course in the fall of 2015, we
were assigned a project where we had to include a classroom layout, an activity, and a lesson
plan to go with that activity. When we got the assignment I started to look for activity ideas on
pinterest. When I chose the activity that I was going to do I started to fill out the lesson plan for
that activity.

AnalysisofWhatILearned:
While completing this activity I learned how to fill out a lesson plan. I learned how to
find the right foundation that goes with the activity that is being done. While trying to find the
right foundation I found that there are many different foundations that can go with an activity.

HowThisArtifactDemonstratesmyCompetenceontheNAEYCStandard:
My competence on this standard was shown when I completed the lesson plan. I used my own
knowledge and other resources to help me design, and implement this lesson plan. With this
lesson plan I tried to promote comprehensive developmental, and learning outcomes, by doing
the activity that went along with the lesson plan.
