Statement of Purpose

Learning Environment & Classroom Culture

Physical Environment:
Our classroom will be a very colorful, lively
place that students can enjoy. I want every
student to feel represented in the classroom by
having their own work displayed in the
classroom and that the diversity of the class is
supported through the physical environment.
Also, the classroom will be organized which
will allow students to find their items and
classroom items easily. To support all types of
students, there will be different work areas
provided for students. Students will have
desks, a rug they can sit on, and comfortable
chairs will be in the classroom by our library,
which students can use.

Emotional Environment:
Our classroom will be a positive, inclusive
environment where all students feel safe and
comfortable. Each student will feel respected
and valued in the learning environment.

Cultural Competence

It is extremely important to have a
cultural competence and recognize that
each student comes from a different
culture. My cultural competence will
always be developing and to help
develop it, I plan on getting to know
about my students, their families, and
their culture.

To have a classroom that takes into
consideration different cultures, I will
make sure students have the opportunity
to work independently and to work in
groups. For ELL students, I will make
sure that I provide them and all my
students with different ways of learning
by providing them with many images.
Also, I will help ELL students by letting
them develop their native language as
well because that is important in helping
them learn the English language as well.

In order to have a culturally
relevant classroom environment, I
will provide my students with a
diverse classroom library. All
students should be able to see
themselves in literature. Also, I
will provide classroom toys and
material that are representative of
different cultures and genders.

I plan to make sure every student
is represented in the classroom by
having the students artwork hung
up in the classroom and during
holidays each student feels as
though their culture is
represented.

Collaboration

An important aspect of
teaching is collaborating with
others; these people include
other teachers, parents,
special educators and many
more. I plan on using my
resources to best help and
advance my students.
I will use other resources as
well such as librarians who
are skilled in working with
technology and researching. I
can have them come into the
classroom and teach my
students how to use a new
program. I hope to be able to
collaborate with other
teachers as well, by bringing
others in (such as the special
ed. Teacher) to do station
teaching or alternate teaching
to give students the
opportunity to learn from
someone else or to receive
extra support.

To help students with

exceptionalities, I will
collaborate with the special
education teacher. I will
view the special educator as
a co-teacher and allow the
teacher to interact with all
students in the classroom. It
is important to always
communicate and make sure
we are fitting the students
needs.

Classroom Agreements and Consequences

As a class, we will create classroom

agreements at the beginning of the year.
I want all students to be apart of the

process and to understand the

expectations that their classmates and I

have of them. When talking about

words like respect and polite the

students and I will create a chart that
defines what these words look like and
sound like.

Classroom Agreements:

Listen when the teacher or another student is talking

Respect others
Use kind words and always be polite
Ask before using other peoples items
Raise your hand

Classroom Consequences

For our classroom consequences, I believe in using

positive reinforcement with my students and not taking
away things from my students. When students are
behaving in a positive way, I will make sure to reward or
let the student know I noticed the positive behavior.
Before punishing my students for not following
classroom rules or misbehaving, I plan on guiding their
behavior by using tactics such as proximity, looking on,
reminding, redirecting, and stopping,

Classroom Procedures

Morning Routine:

Students arrive with our morning song playing

Hang up their backpacks and coats in their designated
area and bring take home folder to desk
Put any notes in the notes bin for teacher or office
Sharpen 3 pencils for the day
Students will go to the board and move their name over to their
lunch preference (hot lunch choices or lunch from home)
Students will do their morning work. Which will be teachers
choice such as write a journal, finish up work, or reading time.
We will have quick, morning circle talk. I will call all the students
to the rug where I say hello to my students and ask them how they
are doing this morning.

Hallway Procedure:
First, I will call our designated line leader for the day to the front
of the door.
I will call the students to the front of the door by table or desk
Next, I will tell students that when we walk in the hallway we
have a voice of zero
The designated line leader will be responsible for leading the line,
while I will stand by the middle of the line
If students have to wait outside of a classroom before entering, we
will play a game of statue. Where I will tell students to act like
something or someone and they will have to become a statue of
that (this games requires them to be silent because they are
statues)

Bathroom Procedure:
During a lesson if a student needs to go to the bathroom, they will
hold up a number 3 with their fingers which signals to me they
need to go to the restroom
I will respond with either a head nod yes or no which indicates if
the student can go to the bathroom

Student will be required to sign out in the bathroom binder which will be by
the front door of the classroom
Student will take a bathroom pass with them
Student will sign back in the bathroom binder when they arrive back to class
and return the bathroom pass as well.

Goodbye Routine:

Play our goodbye song

Students will get their items ready that they need to take home
with them.
Students will clean up their desk, the area surrounding their
desks, and put their chairs up
We will have our afternoon circle talk, I will use this time to talk to
my students and address and problems that occurred during the
day. Also, I will use this time to remind my students of anything
and give them an opportunity for them to talk to me as well.
I will say goodbye to my students as they leave the classroom.

Crisis Plan

The crisis plan will be used when a students behavior has the potential
to put the student or other classmates in harms way. Below is a picture
of the acting out phase; this plan will be used when a student is at the
peak of the acting out phase.

I will send a student to the

office with a note that informs
the office that a behavior crisis
is happening in the classroom

Once situation is under control,

I will bring the students back
into the classroom and we will
continue on with our work

Notify parents of the
incident that occurred

I will send the rest of the class

to the classroom next door and
designate a student to inform
the teacher on the incident

When student is well into the
recovery phase, I will talk to the
student about the incident, in a
calm manner

Once everyone has cleared the

classroom, I will help the
student regain control over
himself/herself and the
situation. I will give the student
time to calm down and talk to
student later in the day of the
incident

Action Plan:
