Science task 3
Facts
1. Nuclear power plants generate about 20% of U.S. electricity.
2. Nuclear energy is being used in more than 30 countries
around the world and even powers Mars rovers.
3. United States power plants produce 2,000 metric tons of
radioactive waste every year.
4. The concept of biogas as a source of energy has been
around since the early 17th century.
5. If we were to start utilizing all of the Biogas produced from
cow manure it would be enough to power millions of homes
across world.
6.
Biogas can be used for heating when cooking, gas for
motor vehicles, power for electricity and heating.
7.Tidal power uses no fuel and produces zero
emissions entirely green and renewable!
8.Tidal energy has an efficiency of 80% in
converting the potential energy of the water
into electricity.
9.Tidal power can provide secondary benefits
such as bridges and roads, which are built over
the tidal generators.
10.
Wind mills have been in use since 2000
B.C. and were first developed in China and
Persia.
11.
A single wind turbine can power 500
homes.
12.
Most wind turbines (95%) are installed on
private land.
13.
Unlike nearly every other form of energy,
wind power uses virtually no water.
14.
World-wide, about 20% of all electricity is
generated by hydropower.
15.
The United States is the second largest
producer of hydropower in the world. Canada is
number one
16.
Hydropower leaves behind no waste.
17.
Hydropower is the leading source of
renewable energy. It provides more than 97%
of all electricity generated by renewable
sources.
18.
When ice melts it undergoes a physical
change from solid to liquid. However, this is
not a chemical reaction as it remains the same
physical substance (H2O).
19.
Most cars get their power from an engine
that uses a combustion chemical reaction.
20.
Rockets are propelled by the reaction that
occurs when liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen
are combined.
