A Barrie man facing child pornography charges has died.
Collin Christopher Scott, 48, was charged last month with two counts of possession of child pornography and one
count of transmitting child pornography.
Scott was commanding officer with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, Barrie Squadron 102, where he had carried the
rank of major, before being relieved of his duties at CFB Borden.
Capt. Cory Lohnes, from Regional Cadet Support Unit Headquarters at Borden, said the military was notified Feb. 3
that Scott had passed away on Feb. 2.
Lohnes did not have any information about the circumstances of Scott's death.
He did pass away, Lohnes said, and that the matter is under investigation.
We were notified by the next of kin.
Scott was released Jan. 12 on $15,000 bail, under house arrest with conditions to keep off the Internet and to stay
away from children.
Scott had been arrested and charged Jan. 7 after OPP and Barrie city police used search warrants to raid
residences.
The South Dakota Internet crimes against children task force was also involved in the case against Scott after
police received information about child pornography images being shared with an American citizen.
This followed an online undercover investigation; computer systems and related electronic evidence were seized
which contained images of child sexual abuse, police said.
None of the charges against Scott were proven in court.
RCMP Const. Michael Gavin Thomander, 39, of Barrie, posted in the Toronto area, was also arrested and charged
with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of
making available child pornography.
Thomander was released on bail and allowed to go home with his parents. He is under house arrest with restrictions
to stay off of the Internet and to keep away from children. He has been suspended from the RCMP with pay.
Anthony Pitocco, 28, was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child
pornography and one count of making available child pornography.
The OPP child sexual exploitation unit said the three arrests were not linked, although the police raids at the
residences all took place Jan. 7.
None of the charges against Thomander or Pitocco have been proven in court.
