Chances of playing sports

beyond high school

What you need


All of the top athletes aspire to play college sports, so you
obviously have to be one of the top in your sport.
Although there are many opportunities other than division
one. There are a lot of high school athletes.
Besides the athletic side of things you need to meet the
academic side as well. If you cant meet those
requirements it doesnt matter how good you are.

Academics

At minimum you need to have at least a 2.3 GPA in


your core classes.
Complete at least 16 core classes.
Have to have passed at least 10 core classes by junior
year.
Your SAT and ACT score you need depends on you
GPA.
The higher your GPA the lower you need those tests to
be.
The sliding scale they use show it here. Scale
Coaches dont like players they have to worry about
missing games due to academic issues, so if you really
want to play at a higher level keep your grades where
they need to be.

Chances of playing college basketball in the


NCAA

There are nearly 539,000 high school college basketball players.


Almost 154,000 seniors alone.
All competing for a little over 5,000 freshman roster spots.
Just trying to survive to be one of the almost 4,000 senior student athletes.
The percent to play of high school men's basketball players to play in the
NCAA is just a small 3.3%
The chances are slim, and If you cant make it here, there are other places to
play college basketball.

Chances of playing college basketball outside of


the NCAA
There are 10,571 spots for a varsity athlete on the
collegiate level besides in the NCAA.
This means you have to be in the top 5.9% of basketball
players around the country to play basketball at any level
of college.

Playing Football in College


Football is the most played high school sport in America. Over one
million kids played high school football last year.
310,000 of which were seniors.
All fighting to get 1 of the 20,042 freshman roster spots in the NCAA
Thats only 6.5% chance of the people would make it.
Then out of the 20,042 in your freshmen class only 254 of you will get
drafted.
Thats only 1.6% of the people that make it to college
The chance of making it to the pros for everyone is a slim .08%
chance.

Playing Soccer in the NCAA

There are a little over 410,000 High School soccer players.


Over 117,000 are in the senior class.
Theres only 6,676 freshman roster spots in the NCAA.
Only 5.7% make it into the NCAA
Only 5,192 are still on the team senior year.
There are only 101 draft spots for those seniors.
1.9% of people who play in the NCAA end up playing professionally
So only .09% of people who play soccer in High School play in the pros.

Playing Soccer outside the NCAA

Out of the over 410,000 high school soccer players, and about 117,000
people in the senior class. There are only 14,525 roster spots outside of the
NCAA.

Thats only a 3.5% chance of making it to a school outside of the NCAA to


play soccer.
