Endangered Animal Project

The document provides instructions for a school project on endangered and extinct animals. Students are asked to research one endangered animal and one extinct animal. For the endangered animal, they must identify what it is, where it lives, why it is endangered, how it is being protected, and answer a question. They also need to create two food webs, one with and without the endangered animal. For the extinct animal, they must determine what it was, where it lived, how it became extinct, how it could have been protected, and when it went extinct. Optionally, students can explore conservation laws related to their chosen animals.

Endangered Animals

Project
Name:
For this individual and handwritten project, please use lined or white paper, and staple
everything together when you turn it in.
Endangered Animals: Choose one of these animals to research. You will probably
need to do additional research to find everything, but start here. Click on an animal of
interest and read the information. You are looking for the following information:
WHAT the species is
WHERE does it live (country, habitat)
WHY is it endangered
HOW is it being protected
ANSWER at least one of the Questions for Thought at the bottom of the animals
page
MAKE two food webs: one with and without your endangered animal. For the food
web without your endangered animal, put arrows up or down about how you would
expect the other animal and plant populations to change. Food webs should at least
involve: your animals predator & your animals prey all the way back to the source of
energy, the sun.
Extinct Animals: Choose one of these animals to research, using this website as a
start. Click on an animal of interest and read the information. You are looking for the
following information:
WHAT the species was
WHERE did it live (country, habitat)
HOW did it become extinct
HOW could it have been protected
WHEN did it become extinct
For extra credit: Conservation Laws: Find one law that would apply to your
endangered animal, and one law that would apply to your extinct animal. Succinctly
describe each law.
