People migrate for several reasons: Push factors induce people to leave their home location due to problems like economic hardship or environmental disasters, while pull factors attract people to new locations with opportunities. Most migration is driven by economic factors as people seek better jobs and wages. However, political instability or human rights violations also cause over 10 million refugees and asylum seekers to flee to other countries annually according to the UN. Environmental changes like drought can also displace hundreds of thousands when damaging agriculture and livelihoods. Both developed and developing regions experience immigration as people move to places with stronger economic prospects, higher wages, or temporary work opportunities despite lower pay than native-born workers.
