I let her choose poems from the book she wanted to read and she went for
shorter ones that had silly pictures
I read about 5 poems and she said she liked them all

I showed her my favorite poem from when I was little, Ickle Me, Pickle Me,
Tickle Me Too and she said she liked it

Smiled at me when I first introduced a new character/accent
Giggled when Elliot carried garden hose through the house
Giggled when I pointed out all the turtles throughout the book
Nodded and smiled when I asked if she liked the book
Periodically looked up at my facial expressions
Requested a book about doctors

Antsy- kept swaying


Only let me read 2 pages before stopping me and asking to go back to class
Willing to at least look through pictures with me and guess what was
happening for a couple minutes then asked to go back to class again
Not excited about soldiers, even though thats what he wanted
Said book was too long

A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon

Wanted to hold book as usual


Invited friend over to look at book
Thought some of the pages had too many words
Interrupted me to point out words she recognized (such as: see, she, a)
Interrupted me to ask questions (such as: what happened? Or why did she do
that?)
Wanted me to follow along with my finger so she knew where I was
Favorite part: doctor tickling Camilles foot
Gasped at Camille returning to normal

Smiled when I turned to look at him
Got distracted by people in hallway
Giggled at boo-boo-butt
Watched my facial expressions when I was making funny sounds
Said he liked it and Lexi would like it too

Lexi moved so I will no longer be reading to her

Giggled at silly things David did

At the end when David said I love you, mom, Gabe said that was in the
other book too
Asked to read another David book
Repeated David Shannon as he walked to class

Too Many Toys by David Shannon

Chose this book from 3 options


Sat quietly, listening, paying attention

Said she had too many toys too at the end of the book
Told me about how once her mom packed up a bunch of her toys in a box but
she let her keep her doll house since that was her favorite
Said her favorite part was the bathtub page, noticed that David had the tub
filled up too high, and went off on a tangent about bath time at her house

She commented that Olivias favorite color was red because all her clothes
were red
Her favorite part was when Olivia was trying on all her clothes

When asked to retell, he said it was about a mouse who didnt work
I corrected him by asking if Frederick was helpful at the end and he turned to
the page where Frederick was describing the Sun
Giggled at the voice I used for Frederick
