Youcanusethisideaforallkindsofwire(andother)jewelrydesigns!
Onceyouvefiguredoutthemeasurementsforaproject,createatemplatesoyouwonthavetodothesamemeasuringalloveragainthe
nexttimeyoumakesomethingsimilar.
AmongmymostusedwireworkingtoolsaremymeasuringtemplatesIvemadeoutofwoodenpopsiclesticks.
Eachpopsiclestickismarkedwiththemeasurementsforaborderwrappedpendantmadewithaspecificsizeofcabochon.
Ononesideofthepopsiclestick:
IveusedafinetipSharpiemarkertowritethesizeofthecabochon,thelengthofthemainwiresneededforthissize,andthetypeofwire
needed.
(Sothetopstickshowninthephotoaboveisforan18x25mmcabochon,whichneedsabundleofsquarewiresthatare67/8long.)
Ontheothersideofthepopsiclestick:
Ivemarkedfourlines,ontheexactspotswherethefourbindingwiresneedtobewrappedaroundthemainwirebundleforthisdesign.
Youcanseewherethefourbindingwiresenduponthefinishedpendant,inthisphotoapairofbindingwiresjustbelowthecabochon,
andapairofthemjustaboveit:
HowIusethesemeasuringtemplates:
Isimplyplacemywirebundleontopofthepopsiclestick,withthemidpointofthebundlelinedupwiththemidpointofthepopsiclestick.
IdrawthefourlinesacrossmywireswithafinepointSharpie.
ThenIpickupthewirebundleandwrapitsfourbindingwiresarounditwitheachbindingstartingontheappropriateSharpieline.
Iwrapthebindingsinthedirectionofthearrowsshownonthepopsiclestick:

ItfinallyoccurredtomethatIcouldskipallthetediousmeasuringifIcouldjustlaymywiresacrossatemplateandmarkwherethe
bindingsgo.
Iknewthatwouldsubtractseveralminutesfromtheprocessofmakingeachpendant,andmakemydesignsmorepreciseatthesametime!
