Their last literacy unit focuses on problem solving, comparing and contrasting similarities and differences, and saving the planet. In integrated studies, students are learning about food groups and making healthy choices. Their math unit reviews numbers to 100 and teaches coin values, time, and length. Literacy
Our last unit in literacy
deals with 3 different
topics. We are in our
second week. The first
week we talked about
problem solving and working together. The
second week we will be exploring the ways
things are alike and different. We will finish off
Unit 10 by reading about ways we can save
our planet. Our high frequency words are:
has, play, where, look, good, who, come,
does. Students will benefit from spelling and
reading practice of these words. They will be
expected to spell words correctly during a
weekly quiz. To get ready for first grade, we
are practicing vocabulary daily and blending
the sounds we hear in words. In grammar we
continue identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives,
and pronouns. We all are very good at
blending sounds and making words. We
have a lot of fun reading nonsense words with
silent e: fote, sipe, mune. Remember when
you read books at home, always ask your
child to retell the story. Ask questions about
what happened first, next, last, etc.
Ask them who the characters are in the story.
Was there a problem? Did it get solved?
Every day we are amazed at what great
readers our Adams Kindergartners are this
year!
Integrated Studies
During 4th Quarter, we will be
studying food facts.
In this health unit,

Mrs. Johnson

Miss Fayle

Mrs. Lindberg

students will learn about the different food

groups and how to make healthy choices. We
even get to prepare a healthy snack to eat as
a culminating activity to this unit.
Math
We are working on
Unit 6. This unit
reviews and builds on
childrens knowledge of numbers through
100 and encourages them to use numbers to
express quantities of money, time and length.
Children learn coin names and values for
pennies, nickels, and dimes and that 100
cents equals one dollar. Activities with clocks
and calendars prepare children to work with
time and introduce children to the concept of
measurement.
Donations are needed J
We
would
appreciate
donations of sidewalk chalk
to help us finish the year
strong (and fun)!
