It is because of Gods goodness that we ought to serve Him.
I. The choice in Joshuas day
A. Two options were given them: serve the Lord or other gods.
You cannot serve God and mammon (wealth or thing).
B. Three important points to take from Joshuas challenge:
1. choose -- the choice of service is essentially a
choice of treatment: 23:12-13; 24:20.
2. this day-- their service in the past could be
destroyed by a wrong choice today or tomorrow: 23:1516.
3. as for me and my house -- you can choose the
direction you will take your family.
II. The choice in our day
A. Soul liberty: we make the choice for ourselves, but we
cannot make it for others.
While we cant force faith, we can train kids in the right
way.
B. Salvation: we must make a definitive choice for the
direction of our lives.
Being born again happens at a definite crisis point in
life.
C. Service: we make daily choices that continue the direction
of our lives.
1. You serve God by putting a priority on spiritual things
(Matt 6:33; Col 3:2).
2. You serve God in the choices you make about where
you live and work.
3. You serve God by living the Word in your home.
4. Your serve God in how you use your time, treasure
and talents.
5. You serve God by doing your job to the best of your
ability -- Col 3:23-25.
6. You serve God by how you respond to sin in your life
and your family.
