A STUDY ON WORK-LIFE BALANCE

WORK-LIFE BALANCE:

The expression work life balance was first used in the late 1970’s to
describe the balance between an individual's work and personal life.

a recent study for the Center for Work-Life Policy, 1.7 million people
consider their jobs and their work hours excessive because of

globalization.
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE EMPLOYER:

Encouraging employees,

provide compulsory leave,

strict maximum hours,

foster an environment.

Now companies are realize as their companie’s

Productivity and Profitability,work-life balance is as important as it

considered one of the factors that induces employee satisfaction.


BENEFITS OF WORK-LIFE BALANCE

 Reduced staff turnover rates


 Becoming a good employer or an employer of choice
 Increased return on investment in training as employees
stay longer
 Reduced absenteeism and sick leave
 Improved morale or satisfaction
 Greater staff loyalty , commitment and Improved
productivity.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
• To study the work-life balance of the employees in
HDFC, Chennai.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVES
• To identify the factors that affects the quality of life in
terms of career and family.
• To suggest ways to improve work-life balance in HDFC
• To discuss employees comfort in work-life balance
issues with superiors
• To feel stressed out most of the times
• To improve the employee’s work-life balance
SCOPE OF THE STUDY:

 The study focuses on finding out the factors affecting the work-
life balance of employees in HDFC.

 It identifies the extent to which the employees are able to


balance the personal, social and organizational work life.

The study identified the various measures


that are to be followed by the organization to improve
the work-life of the employees and provide a
motivational environment in which the employees are
highly satisfied.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY :

• This study is limited only to Maruti Service Masters,


Chennai.
• The study was time bound because the employees had
to be disturbed from their work and prior appointments
had to be taken.
• The study is restricted only from June-July and hence
the expectations & perceptions of employees could
change in future.
• The findings of the study cannot be applicable to any
other organization as the study was carried out at Maruti
Service Masters, Guindy. The findings and suggestions
are confined only to this organization.
THE HISTORY OF INDIAN INSURANCE
INDUSTRY:

• 1818 - British established the first insurance company in India


in Calcutta, the Oriental Life Insurance Company.

• Indian Life Assurance Companies Act in 1912.


A number of amendments to this Act were made until the
Insurance Act was drawn up in 1938.

• Act was changed in 1950, meant far reaching changes in the


industry.

• In 1956, the market contained 154 Indian and 16 foreign life


insurance companies.
Some of the important milestones in the life insurance
business in India are:

1912: The Indian Life Assurance Companies Act enacted as the


first statute to regulate the life insurance business.

1928: The Indian Insurance Companies Act enacted to enable the


government to collect statistical information about both life and
non-life insurance businesses.

1938: Earlier legislation consolidated and amended to by the


Insurance Act with the objective of protecting the interests of the
insuring public.

1956: The market contained 154 Indian and 16 foreign life

insurance companie
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

 Research methodology is a way to systematically solve the


research problem. It may be understood as a science of
studying how research is done scientifically.

DATA COLLECTION
Primary and Secondary data to collect the data for the study.
PRIMARY DATA
The primary data are that information which is collected a fresh

and for the first time. The collection of primary data is used in
management in taking decision.
SECONDARY DATA
The secondary data are those which have already been collected by
some other agency and which have already been processed. The
various sources used by me in collecting the secondary data are
company’s own records, documents, industry survey, reports,
data's etc.
RESEARCH DESIGN

The type of Research design used is Descriptive Research. The


Descriptive Research deals to depict the present state of
affairs. The main characteristic of descriptive research design is
the researcher can only report what has happened and what is
happening.

INSTRUMENT USED
The type of instrument used to gather data is through
questionnaire. The researcher used both open & close
ended in the questionnaire.
AREA OF SURVEY
The survey was done within the organization. The study is on
Work-life balance of the employees in HDFC.
SAMPLING DESIGN
A sampling design is a definite plan for obtaining a sample from a
given population/sampling frame. It refers to the technique or
the procedure the researcher would adopt in selecting items for
the sample. Here, the type of sampling design followed is
probability sampling-simple random sampling.
SAMPLE SIZE
This refers to the number of items to be selected from the universe
to constitute a sample. The sample size was 200. They were
viewed for the purpose of the study.
