Diego Maradona was a famous Argentine soccer player who achieved two major accomplishments in one soccer game. He scored "The Hand of God" goal with his hand and "The Goal of the Century" in Argentina's 1986 World Cup quarterfinal victory over England. Maradona grew up poor in Buenos Aires and dreamed of becoming a great soccer player from a young age with Argentinos Juniors. He went on to have an illustrious career winning awards for FIFA Player of the Century and being chosen as the greatest World Cup player of all time.

Introduction

How is it possible that a soccer player from Argentina could earn two of the
hardest soccer achievements in one soccer game? It could be skill, experience or
popularity because Maradona showed that he had it all.

Early life

Diego Armando Maradona was born in Lanus , in the outskirts of Buenos Aries. He
is the fifth of the eight children of Diego Maradona and Dalma Salvadora Franco.
Maradona was born on October 30th 1960. In December 1970 he started to play
with Cebolting, the youth team of Argentinos Juniors. Maradona dreamed of
becoming a great soccer player when he was young. His family was poor and his
dad was a brick layer and a factory worker. In 1972 he led Los Ceblitos to a Junior
Championship. Maradonas team one hundred and forty straight games. The
Argentinos Juniors were winning against the best teams. His Future seemed
limitless.

Achievements

Maradona achieved many things but one of his major achievements was scoring “The Hand of
God” is when a football player scores a goal with his hand and the referee doesn’t see him!
Maradona finished first in an internet vote for the best FIFA Player of the Century award and he
shared it with Pele. Maradona played his best match in the 1986 World Cup in the tournaments
quarter final win over England. The score was 2-1 and Maradona scored the two best goals in
history, “The Hand of God” and “The Goal of the Century”. In 2010 Maradona was chosen as
number one in the Greatest world cup player of all time by “The Times” a London based
newspaper.

My Opinion

My opinion on the star Maradona is that he should be viewed as a famous person because of all
the great things he accomplished for Argentina. Maradona is a great role model for all young
soccer players who whish to Achieve great things like him. Maradonas picture will soon be on
a lot of books showing how Maradona managed to achieve his goal to be a star
