‘SECTION III: UNIT INSTALLATION
LOCATION
‘Before starting the installation, select and check the sutabilty of the
“Jocation forbath the indoor and outdoor unit. Observe all iitations and
‘clearance requirements
“The'dulor unit must have sufclent clearance fr air entrance to the
‘condenser col for ai dlscharge, and for service access. Soe Figure 1
NOTE: For multiple unt instalations, units must be spaced a minimum
‘of 18 inches apart. (Col face to col face.)
Ifthe units to be installed on a hot sun exposed roof ora black topped
‘ground area, the unit should be raised sufiienty above the root oF
{round to avold taking the accumulated layer of hot air nto the outdoor
Ui
Provide an adequate structural support.
ADD-ON REPLACEMENT/RETROFIT
‘The folowing steps should be performed inorder to insure proper sys-
tem operation and performance.
4. Change-out ofthe indoor cll o an approved R22 cll condens:
ing unt combination withthe appropiate metering device.
2, Ifthe outdoor unit's being replaced due to a compressor burnout
‘hen instalation of 100% activated alumina suction fier
‘ior is required, In ation tothe factory installed liqune die.
‘Operate the system for 10 hours. Monitor the suction drier pres
‘sure drop. Ifthe pressure drop excoeds 3 psig, replace both the
Suctionsine and liqudtine dies. After a total of 0 hours run tine
\here the suctonline pressure drop has not exceeded 3 psig,
‘replace the lauid line drier, and remove the suctorline drier
Never leave a suctionsine die Inthe system longer than 50 hours

GROUND INSTALLATION
‘The unit may be installed at ground level on a sold base that will not
shit or sete, causing strain onthe efigerant ines and possible leaks.
Mainiain the clearances shown in Figure 1 and instal the untin 2 level
postion,
Normal operating sound levels may be objectionable ifthe units placed
rectly under windows of certain rooms (bedrooms, study, et).
Condensate will rain from beneath the cal ofthe outdoor unit during
the defrost cycie. Normally this condensate may be allowed to deain
rectly on the ground,
AAWARNING
The outdoor unt should not bo istaled I an area where mud or
‘ico could cause porsonal injury. Remomber that condensate wil
Chip from the uni col during haet and defrost cycles and that this
Condensate will eeze when the temperature ofthe outdoor ais
below 32°F
Elovate the unit suficiently to prevent any blockage o the ar entrances
by snow in areas where there will be snow accumulation, Check the
local weather bureau forthe expected snow accumulation in your area
Isolate the unit rom rain gutters to avoid any possible wash out of the
foundation,

ROOF INSTALLATION
‘When instaling units on a roof, th structure must be capable of sup-
porting the total weight of the unt including @ pad, Iintes, rls, et.
‘which should be used to minimize the transmission af sound of vib
tion ino the conditioned space,
UNIT PLACEMENT
1. Provide a base in the pre-determined locaton
2. Remove the shipping carton and inspect for possible damage,
3. Compressor tie-down bolts should remain tightened,
4. Position the unit onthe base proved.
NOTE: Heat pumps will defrost peiocicaly resulting in water crainage
‘The unit should not be located where water drainage may freeze
and create a hazardous condition - such as sidewalks and
stops.
LIQUID LINE FILTER-DRIER

PIPING CONNECTIONS:
The outdoor unt must be connected tothe indoor col using Feld sup-
plied refigerant grade copper tubing that is internally clean and dry
Units should be installed only with the tubing sizes for approved system
combinations as epecifid in Tabular Data Sheet. The charge given Is
‘applicable for total tubing lengths up to 15 feet. See Application Data
Part Number 036-61920-001 for instaling tubing of longer lengths and
elevation diferences.
NOTE: Using a larger than species line size could result in oll return
‘problems. Using too small ine wil result in loss of capacity
‘and ther problems caused by nsuficient refrigerant flow. Slons

PRECAUTIONS DURING LINE INSTALLATION
4. Insta the lines with a few bends as possible, Care must e taken
not to damage the couplings or kink the tubing, Use clean hard
‘aun copper tubing where no appreciable amount of bending
‘around abstrucon is necessary. If soft copper must be Used, care
‘ust b taken to aveid sharp bends which may cause a restriction,
2. The lines should be installed so that they wll not obstruct service
‘access othe eal ar handling system, oF ite
3. Care must also be takan fo sole the reigarant fines to minimize
noise tansmission from the equipment tothe stuctur.
44. The vapor ine must be insulated wth a minimum of 1/2" foam rub-
ber insulation (Armatiex or equivalent). Liquid ines that will be
‘exposed to direct sunlight andlor high temperatures must also be
insulate,
‘Tape and suspend the refigrant lines as shown. 00 NOT allow tube
metatc-metal contact. Seo Figure 3.
5. Use PVC piping as @ conduit forall underground instaiations 2
showin Figure 4. Buried ines should be Kepl as short as possible
to minimize the buildup of gud erigerant in the vapor line during
long periods of shutdown
8. Pack fibers insulation and a sealing material such as perma-
‘gum around refrigerant lines where they panetrate a walle reduce
bration and to reign some flexbilly
