Thanks to the continued generosity of the members of Christ the King Parish, we worked to
do just that.
Food drives were sponsored by: Elmhurst and Villa Park post offices, Christ the King Faith
Formation students, Christ the King Early Learning Academy, Knights of Columbus of Christ the King, and
Thanksgiving Day Mass participants. In addition, we received many anonymous food donations from parish-
ioners, and lastly, were the beneficiaries of two huge food drives from Congregation Etz Chaim Teen Group,
and Montini Catholic High School students.
Other donations received: A parishioner donated 26 winter coats and snowsuits. Ten Thanksgiving Baskets of
Love containing food and a 15 lb turkey were donated by the Chicago Italian-American Charitable Organi-
zation. Yorktown Deli donated the loaves of bread distributed at the Thanksgiving Day mass. We get weekly
donations of bakery goods from Panera Bread, Starbuck’s, Ultra Foods and. Breadsmith. Capital Grill do-
nates meat, potatoes, and chicken on a weekly basis. Several parishioners donate bags of food each week.
Many parishioners contribute financially to St Vincent de Paul using monthly envelopes, while others have
sent us contributions in memory of or in honor of family members and friends. These funds enable us to pur-
chase food at greatly reduced prices from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
A major contributor, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated Christmas gifts to two very needy families of
our parish. Parishioners using Christmas giving tree tags made Christmas brighter for 74 needy children.
In 2010 we served an average of 120 people per week at our food pantry. At Easter and Thanksgiving we
distributed boxes of food to our Parish shut-ins. The Thanksgiving boxes contained a turkey plus the necessary
items for a traditional festive dinner.
Whenever possible, which is usually weekly, food is delivered to the Deicke Home for the mentally chal-
lenged, and the York Township Senior Center. Our society provided financial aid to Catholic Charities, Love
Christian, The Salvation Army, Women’s Choice Services, Thumbuddy Special,
Ray Graham Association, and NEDSRA.
In closing, on behalf of the clients we serve, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
It has been a very joyous Christmas time at our Academy—heavy emphasis on “Christ”! We had a won-
derful time during the month of December learning about advent and practicing for our Christmas plays! We
especially enjoyed being angels at the Live Nativity presentation at Christ the King Church singing, looking at
the live animals, eating cookies and making Christmas crafts! It was a great time to be together at our beauti-
ful church and spend time with each other and the parishioners!
We wish everyone a very Happy New Year and hope God blesses each of you as well,

"Let the children come to me and do not hinder them," says the Lord.
We are so fortunate to have our young parishioners, teens and college students that bless the community with
their presence and prayer. We look forward to the many ways they will touch our lives in 2011. Fr. Jarosz

Christ the King Parish Presents: The Council of Catholic Women – 2010
Holiday Fair Report:
Thank you! The Holiday Fair went very well! The
room looked great! The Snow Flakes, the Tree and the
Centerpieces on each of the tables made the room look
very festive. The Bakery, Craft and Raffle tables were
well stocked and very impressive. Many thanks go to
our parish bakers and crafters who donated their time
and talent to the project. The Fair worked well along
with the Monthly Hospitality Sunday. A very big
thanks go to CCW’s special helpers – the Council
members who organized, scheduled, and (wo-)manned
the tables. Another thank you to the parish staff who

January 15 & 16 to January 29 & 30 are the dates of our Parish-wide Baby Bottles for Life collection. Be sure to
pick up a baby bottle at church the weekend of January 15 & 16, fill it with the loose change you have around the house
(checks or folding money would be good, too) and then bring it back to church by January 29th and 30th. We would
really appreciate your help. It is indeed the easiest way to be pro-life.
January 20 – CCW sponsored Holy Hour. The intention for the January Day of Prayer is World Peace. Stop by on
Thursday; join us in praying the Rosary for World Peace. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament follows. If you are un-
able to come at that time, please take a few minutes and join in prayer for World Peace.
Our best wishes to our friend and fellow CCW board member Bess Torralba, who will be leaving us mid-month. She
and her husband, Juan are moving back to the Philippines. We are sorry to see them go. Thanks for all you have done
for our parish community.
May our Lady of Good Counsel bring us closer to Her Son Jesus

Today we are presented with the mystery of Christ’s baptism and our own. Jesus is baptized in order to reveal
himself as God’s only Son, and to reveal his mission of sharing that sonship with us sinners. The reality of his
mission, and our status as baptized Christians, help us understand our commitment to a culture of Life.
To be a Christian is much more than to be a good person. It’s about becoming a new person, sharing a new
kind of life – the life of God himself. Christmas, the celebration of which we conclude with today’s Feast, is not
just about the birth of a child; it’s about the birth of a whole new humanity. In Adam, all die; in Christ, all come
to life again. We are made sharers, by faith and baptism, in the Divine Nature. At every Mass, as he pours a
few drops of water into the wine, the priest prays, “By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to
share in the Divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.” That’s what the Christmas sea-
son is all about. St. Augustine put it this way: “God became man that man might become God.”
Baptism gives us our identity as "the people of life" (Evangelium Vitae n.79). Baptized into Christ's victory
over death, we are also sent to proclaim, celebrate, and serve that victory (see EV 78-101). When we renew the
vows of our baptism, we say that we "reject Satan and all his works." Chief among those works is death. Yet
the Son of God has destroyed death, and that means that we who follow Him likewise are called to stand
against it.
Abortion is a contradiction to baptism. Consider what the Church does in the celebration of baptism. A child
is brought into the congregation, and is welcomed by all who are present as a brother, a sister. Despite the
fact that all but a few of the gathered Christians do not know this child, and did not know the child's name,
they declare before God that they now accept the child as one of them. Baptism expresses God's uncondi-
tional welcome of His people, His call to them to share His life. Baptism expresses the hospitality of God's
Church, and the responsibility incurred by the fact that God has entrusted us to the care of one another.
