Korba Coalfields: Power from Washery Rejects

The document discusses using coal washery rejects for power generation at Korba coalfields in India. Over 22 million tonnes of raw coal is washed annually by two companies, producing 4-4.5 million tonnes of rejects with 57-62% ash content. Aryan Coal Beneficiations has decided to upgrade these rejects for power generation. The rejects will be reprocessed using jig cleaning to produce clean coal for a planned 2x135MW power plant, with performance data showing the jig process reduces ash content significantly. Using washery rejects for power generation addresses the challenges of storing and disposing of large volumes of reject material.

When 22 MTPA Raw Coal is washed,

it produces rejects of about 4-4.5
MTPA having an ash of 57-62%.

The problem of handling such large

quantities of rejects in an
environmental friendly manner is one
of the biggest challenge being faced
by the washery operator.
