ADDING AN OUTPUT JACK

SIMPLEST METHOD
eg: speaker is not muted when jack plug is inserted

Tools and parts required: An original Gristleism unit of any colour Small cross-head screwdriver Small soldering iron (approx. 12-25 watts). 6 mm drill bit 2 x short lengths of thin wire (approx. 80mm each) 3.5mm stereo jack socket (unswitched type) - see below

Step 1 Remove battery cover then remove the two small screws on rear of unit and carefully separate the two halves.

Step 2 Once open Gristleism should look something like either of these two images, it doesnt matter which.

Step 3 Drill a 6mm hole (approx.) in the bottom left side of the the speaker casing, so the jack socket ts snugly into the corner of the unit - as shown below:

Step 4 Solder a short wire from one speaker terminal to the jack socket earth/ground tagas shown below using a blue wire:

Step 5 Solder a short wire from the remaining speaker terminal to the two remaining jack socket tags as shown above using an orange wire:

Step 6 Reassemble the casing, making sure that the jack socket terminals do not touch any part of the exposed battery terminals. If necessary cover the jack socket with a small piece of insulating tape. Screw the casing together, being careful not to over-tighten the screws. Step 7 Connect socket to an amplied unit using a suitable cable and test.

NOTE The 3.5mm stereo jack socket (unswitched type) used in this modication is also described as a 1/8 Stereo Phone jack in the USA. This component has been used for illustration purposes only. Alternative sockets can be used, although the connections and wiring may vary as a result.
