Coburg North is a small primary school currently with 145 enrolments. Five years ago our enrolment was around 100. This year is the first time in some years that we have had two prep classes. This pattern looks certain to continue which means we will increase by one class each year for the next six years. The other primary schools in the area have reported the same growth patterns. Our grade six students disperse to a range of secondary colleges, none are strictly local. When prospective parents are shown around the school one of their main concerns is where they will send their children to secondary school. We have already lost families who have sold their homes to move to an area where they can send their children to a local secondary school. And I know others who are considering a similar path. In the past five years only two of our grade six students have enrolled at the rebadged high schools in North Moreland. Parents in Coburg North are not willing to consider these schools as one of their options. The Coburg North community urges the government to make the provision for an open entry 7-12 high school in Coburg a priority. Sincerely Cara Hughes School Council President Coburg North Primary
