THE SUBMARINER
No other watch is engineered quite like a Rolex. The Submariner, introduced in 1953, was the first watch to be water resistant up to 100 metres (330 feet). It was later strengthened by its patented triple-seal Triplock winding crown, making it capable of withstanding depths of up to 300 metres (1,000 feet). The new 40 mm Submariner is presented here in 904L steel with a black Cerachrom disc.

1953 THE FIRST SUBMARINER
Launched in 1953, the Submariner was the first watch guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). Todays Submariner can withstand the pressure at a depth of 300 metres (1,000 feet) and is designed to resist extreme conditions.

THE TRIPLOCK WINDING CROWN
To protect the movement from water and dust, Rolex invented the Oyster case in 1926. And then, in 1954 created and patented the Triplock winding crown to ensure even greater protection. The Triplock consists of 10 different elements crafted from the most reliable materials. Once assembled, it screws down onto the Oyster case as tightly and securely as a submarine hatch. The Submariner, equipped with this ingenious triple-seal system, is waterproof to 300 metres (1,000 feet).
THE OYSTER CASE Very few people in the world are allowed inside a Rolex Oyster. Only authorised Rolex retailers have the necessary knowhow, skills and equipment to gain access. Hermetically sealed to the case with a massive torque of five Newton metres, the back of any Oyster, as this case back demonstrates, creates an environment that protects the movement from shocks, pressure, dust, water and any other intrusive element.
THE ROLEX GLIDELOCK CLASP The Submariner Date is no stranger to comfort. Fitted on the new generations of the Submariner Date, the Rolex Glidelock clasp enables divers to adjust the length of the bracelet to fit over a suit 3 mm thick. In increments of 2 mm, it offers a total extension of up to approximately 20 mm. And no tools are required.

UNIDIRECTIONAL ROTATABLE BEZEL
The Submariners rotatable bezel is a key functionality of the watch. The graduations provide the diver with an accurate indication of diving time. For safety reasons, it rotates only counterclockwise, so there is no chance of overestimating dive time or the amount of breathing mix remaining in the tanks. The luminescent capsule ensures legibility, no matter how light-deprived the environment.
THE CERAMIC BEZEL A bezel with a blue, black or green Cerachrom insert graces the SubmarinerDates 40 mm case. Fashioned from extremely hard ceramic material, the Rolex Cerachrom insert has excellent corrosionresistant properties. Its colour remains unaffected by ultraviolet rays and it is virtually scratchproof. The numerals and graduations are in yellow gold or platinum.
