This document provides steps for setting up a basic MikroTik router and hotspot. It includes instructions for connecting to the router, changing passwords and network settings, configuring the hotspot interface, defining user profiles, and automatically backing up and restoring user accounts between MikroTik routers.

MIKROTIK ROUTER SETUP


These are steps for setting up a basic mikrotik router. I use RB750G but any other mikrotk router should work just as fine.

first reset the router using the reset slot

1) Power up your MikroTik AP 2) Connect the AP directly to a PC using a cross over cable, or directly to a hub / switch 3) Run Winbox

4) Click on the button to view connected MikroTik devices 5) Select the device and click on connect

6) You are now connected to your MikroTik AP Change the password first, the old password is just blank

Now Do the internet settings: Select New terminal

Copy this lines, one at ago, as it is and paste on the terminal window ip address add address=192.168.3.210 netmask=255.255.255.252 interface=ether1-gateway

Add a gateway as in the figure below; IP>Routes Add using the red

+ 192.168.3.209

Enter the dns settings (Click on the settings tab) as in the picture below (ignore the router)

Go to the hotspot interface and do the hotspot setup

Local address of the network; Let it remain 192.168.88.1/24 i.e. dont change

Finish the process by defining the admin user and password. Go to the hotspot profiles, hsprof1

Again, run these two lines, ach alone on terminal radius add service=hotspot address=127.0.0.1 secret=123456 ip hotspot profile set hsprof1 use-radius=yes

Now add the users. Define the user profiles using this guide. Here you can define any profile. Important: Shared users and rate limit You can use any name of your choice

If you cant make it, just create the accounts manually: 1. Backup Users Account in Old Mikrotik Box. To start backup Mikrotik Hotspot, open Mikrotik terminal in your old box with admin privilege and then go to Mikrotik Hotspot Users Folder with "ip hotspot user" command. Start export users configuration with "export file=users" command.

Now all Mikrotik users account and profile are exported to "users.rsc" file located in the "file" folder. You can change the exported users file with any name you like in the "file=anynameyoulike" section from above command.

The users.rsc should appear somewhere here, just drag it to the computer desktop. Once you are through with the new setup, drag the file users.rsc from the desktop to this files interface. Grab "users.rsc" (or whatever you named for the exported file) from old Mikrotik Box to your computer using file transfer program e.g ftp and winscp (make sure ftp or ssh enabled on your Mikrotik).

2. Restore Users Account to New Mikrotik Box. Copy "users.rsc" from your computer to new Mikrotik Box using file transfer program (ftp, winscp and etc). Now, login to new Mikrotik Terminal using telnet, putty or winbox New

Terminal with admin privilege.

Before continue to restore the users account, be sure you've already set your hotspot in the new Mikrotik. To start importing users account, type "import users.rsc" command on your current location (Mikrotik root). This command will execute any configuration command on users.rsc file, don't worry about file location because it will automatically look in "file" folder for the filename you've type after the "import" command.

Now all users and profile on you old Mikrotik Hotspot should be restored completely to the new Mikrotik Hotspot.
