-Here Dante refers to anyone who shed the blood of their fellowmen
-ex. War-mongerers, cruel tyrants, highwaymen, etc. etc.

-The souls are placed in a boiling river of blood
-The more blood they shed in life, the deeper in the river of blood they
will be.
