From a Milton Hershey Alumni Interview Abstract: In 1943, at the age of ten, Joseph Gosik enrolled in the Hershey Industrial School. He discusses his experiences at the school including the student homes, daily farm chores, teachers, vocational curriculum, extracurricular activities, and the social and religious atmosphere. Gosik participated in schools vocational curriculum in the electrical trades. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force, remaining in the service as a civil engineer for over twenty years. In the late 1970s, Gosik and his family settled in Hershey. He began working as an electrician at the Souvenir Building and later retired as the director of maintenance for Hersheypark. Gosik describes the Milton Hershey School Alumni Association, specifically the familial relationships between alumni and the Associations growing dissatisfaction with the Milton Hershey Schools administration and the resulting lawsuit. Other topics include: the role of the Rotary Club in the community; Rotary activities; HERCOs diversification in the mid-1970s; the Antique Auto Show; and brief mention of Hersheyparks recycling initiatives.
