Introduce self. Identify resident. Explain procedure. Gather equipment. Provide for privacy Apply gloves, if necessary.

MANUAL SKILL: Measuring Urinary Output

SKILL STEPS: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Pour urine from bedpan, urinal, or catheter bag into measuring container. (For catheter bag, allow all urine to drain into graduate without allowing drainage tubing to touch sides of graduate). Place graduate on flat surface for accuracy in measurement. Measure amount at eye level. Read in MIs or ORCCs. Dispose of fluid in toilet. Avoid splashes. Rinse the graduate. Discard rinse into the toilet. Return item to its proper place. Clean and rinse the bedpan. Dry and return to its proper place.
