Flu Model Reflection

This document contains questions for students to reflect on a Stella modeling activity about how diseases spread. Students are asked to identify the variable that had the largest impact on disease spread based on the model, how they could prevent passing on the flu based on the model, potential variables that could affect a person's susceptibility to catching a disease beyond an equal chance, and describe one other interesting or surprising finding from the modeling exercise.

Stella Modeling: Take-Aways & Reflection

Answer these questions based on the Stella Modeling Activity. This assignment will be easier if you have your
modeling packet with you!

1. What variable(s) seemed to produce the largest impact on how the disease spread? Support your answer with
evidence from the model.

2. If you were sick with the flu, how could you prevent passing it on to other people? Support your answer with
evidence from the modeling activity.

3. One flaw in this model is that every person in the susceptible population had an equal chance of catching the
infectious disease. In reality, this would not be the case. What variables might affect a person’s susceptibility -
meaning, how likely they would catch the disease?

4. Describe one other finding which you found interesting or surprising during this modeling exercise. Be specific.
