ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE OF HOSPITAL

Organizational Structure Organization means the formal structure of authority calculated to define, distribute, and provide for the co- ordination of tasks and contributes to the whole. An organization is formed when the number of workers is large enough to require a supervisor. Organization are necessary because they accomplish more work than they could be done by individual effort. Organizational structure refers to the way in which a group is formed, its lines of communication, and its lines of communication, and its means for channeling authority and making decisions. Each organization has a formal and an informal organizational structure. The formal structure is generally highly planned and published, whereas the informal structure is unplanned and often concealed. An organizations formal structure is the official management of positions into patterns of working relationship that co- ordinate the efforts of workers with diverse tasks and abilities.The formal structure of nursing department should be determined by the nurse executive and nurse managers with input from various nurse specialists; and should support agency goals and nursing philosophy and objectives. Formal structure, through departmentalization and work division, provides a framework for defining managerial authority, responsibility, and accountability. Roles and functions are defined and systematically arranged, different people have differing roles, and rank and hierarchy are evident. The informal organization structure consists of unofficial relationships among workers that influence work effectiveness. The formal structural diagram is a system of power and control, a map of communication channels, and a scheme of assigning tasks to the most qualified workers. The main purpose of the defining and updating diagram is essential to clarity chain of command, span of control, official communication channel, and liaison links for all department personnel.
