WHY A BLACK AND BROWN WEEK?

There are several ?tles we could have given this week-long occasion. We chose to call it Black/Brown Week. We acknowledge that the ?tle is not perfect and can lend itself to misunderstanding. We arm, therefore, that we are not using the term Black/Brown to exclude. In fact we want full par6cipa6on of all na6onali6es, races, cultures, and faith tradi6ons; further, we want to grow a culture of respect and jus6ce for all, especially for the stranger. La?no and African Americans are two large oppressed minority popula?ons. If these two groups are thrown against each other in this period of extreme economic crisis, it will hurt everyone. On the other hand, if a deeper and more genuine unity can be forged between these two groups, it will help everyone. Thats our thinking.
